Fresh off their Commonwealth Games experience, Guyana’s Shemar Britton and Priscilla Greaves captured the boys’ and girls’ 21 years-and-under titles at the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) senior national championships at the National Gymnasium on Saturday.
Britton was impressive in the battle of the southpaws as he defeated Kyle Edgill 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.
Greaves dominated the round robin final easing her way past Neveah Clarkston, Thuraia Thomas, Nkechi McRae and Sana Jacques to remain unbeaten.
Eleven-year-old Jonathan Van Lange captured the “C” Class Open title, defeating his Titans Table Tennis Club mate, Colin Wong in straight sets 11-7, 11-9, 11-9.
Van Lange in his semi-final match defeated Chad Outar 11-6, 11-4 & 12-10 while the unassuming Wong defeated Krystian Sahadeo 11-7, 11-6 & 11-4.
The men’s singles competition has been boosted with the return of overseas-based Matthew Khan, who along with the defending champion Christopher Franklin, Nigel Bryan and Britton are favourites for the title. (Stabroek News) (Akeem Green Photos)
