— “I have high expectations of them”

Guyanese exciting talents Shimron Hetymer and Sherfane Rutherford have come in for high praises from newly recruited Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper, Shoaib Malik.
Malik, a Pakistani player with vast experience, was at the time speaking at a press conference at the Guyana Marriott on the heels of Warriors’ opening match against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at this year’s Honda Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
“I must mention these two names… they are very talented cricketers; Hetymer and Rutherford. I have very high expectations of them,” Malik said.
“The way I’ve seen them play in the practice games… I think that they are very confident guys,” the former Pakistani Skipper said of the two emerging youngsters.
Hetymer 21 and Rutherford 19, captured international headlines recently on the back of eye-catching centuries.
Hetmyer’s came in the recently concluded bilateral series against Bangladesh in the second ODI at Providence, Guyana while Rutherford, playing for West Indies ‘B’ smashed an unbeaten 134 in the semi-finals in the inaugural edition of the Canadian Global T20 league.
Emphasizing the importance of the role of the duo and other locally based players, Malik added: “It is very important in any franchise cricket, if your local players do well, you end up with the right results and its time now to start the biggest party.”
Warriors, who have been a consistent performer over the years without being able to capture a CPL title, will open their account against powerhouse St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on Thursday from 18:00hrs.
