West Indies Under-19 continued their impressive showing on their tour to Africa by defeating Zimbabwe under-19 by 39 runs in the opening Youth One-Day International of the three-match series at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe on Sunday.
The Caribbean side batted first and compiled 211 for 8 in their 50 overs largely through the efforts of Guyanese, Bhaskar Yadram, who stroked 68 as he received support from Emmanuel Stewart (34), Joshua Bishop (32), and Alick Athanaze (31) who all failed to carry on after getting starts. Tinotenda Jakachira 3-27, and Frank Mwaita 2-37 did the business for the hosts.
Zimbabwe, however, fell short after they were bundled out for 172 off 44.1 overs.
Their batting was led by Liam Roche who stroked 54. Meanwhile, Jeavor Royal (3-20, Darren Nedd (2-25) ensured that the Caribbean side started the tour on a winning note after they defeated South Africa 3-2 in their just concluded bilateral series.
